Since 2007, Grace & Co., Inc. dba Dark Heart Industries (DHI) has specialized in cultivating high-quality clones for growers across Northern California. We take pride in our work and continually adapt our process and selection to meet the diverse needs of growers large and small.

We are currently seeking Lab Techs (Per Diem) to work in our Lab located in Oakland, CA. This position will be on call and fill in for scheduled vacations and call offs.This is not a regular work schedule, but more sporadic in response to our production needs.  Occasionally, we may have a schedule in advance for vacation requests, or planned absences. If selected to join the Lab Tech (Per Diem) team, you may be scheduled ahead of time or may receive a call as early as 6:00 a.m. for same day shifts. Along with Lab experience, we are seeking candidates with strong communication skills, excellent organizational skills, the ability to stand/sit for extended periods of time, and the ability to lift 30 lbs regularly, and 50 lbs infrequently. What we need:

Under the direction of  Lab Supervisor and in alignment with the Company Core Values, the Lab Tech (Per Diem) assists in all day to day lab activities in a production environment, including, but not limited to, media preparation, sterilization of media and tools, processing plant materials, and maintaining lab cleanliness by performing the following duties: (1) ensures that aseptic guidelines are followed at all times in a compliant manner; (2) records lab process observations and other related data accurately and timely; (3) promptly reports breaches of safety, compliance, and sanitation to the Lab Supervisor; (4) Utilizes lab equipment such as forceps and scalpels in a safe manner to manipulate plantlets and micro objects; (5) collaborates with and provides support to lab staff within the production environment; (6) accurately weighs, mixes, measures and pours media components as required and when needed; (7) properly operates and loads autoclave in a safe manner.

What you need:

  • High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and at least four months of applicable laboratory job experience and/or at least two semesters of applicable college level or vocational  laboratory course experience

  • Working knowledge of aseptic techniques

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization

  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with teams

  • Proven ability to perform a variety of tasks under time constraints and strict deadlines

Starting Pay: $16.00 per hour

Location: Oakland, CA (close to BART and AC Transit)

Duration of shift: 10 hours

Days of operation: Monday - Friday
